Windscreen Insurance Policy Removal Warning For Drivers
Drivers have been warned to make sure that they check their insurance policies to make sure that they have all necessary bases covered, as it seems that some insurers are removing windscreen cover so they can offer cheaper policies.
According to the AA, some 86 per cent of drivers would say that having windscreen cover included in their policy is important, while three-fifths would go so far as to consider it a very important addition.
While you might well think that having this kind of insurance isn’t really an essential, it’s wise to remember that windscreens aren't simply just big panes of glass any more.
They feature all sorts of high-tech features these days, everything from cameras and sensors to heating elements, which means that if repairs are necessary, they can prove quite costly indeed… and you might well regret passing up on having cover included.
It may be tempting to go for those policies that are advertised as ‘basic’ or ‘essential’, but this could be an expensive mistake to make, since policies of this kind typically no longer have windscreen insurance included as standard.
Gus Park, managing director of AA Insurance, said: ““With household budgets being squeezed there is a temptation to find cheaper alternatives, but when it comes to car insurance it could be a case of not knowing what you’re missing.
“Windscreen cover is commonly removed on ‘entry level’ insurance policies so it is worth checking what you are covered for. Claiming for windscreen damage is one of the most common reasons drivers use their policy. If it is not included, then drivers are likely to lose the savings they made when buying a ‘basics’ policy.”
With winter just around the corner, now’s the perfect time to make sure your cover is up to date so you can hit the road and weather all sorts of storms, safe in the knowledge that if the worst does happen and your windscreen does crack, chip or break, you won’t be left out of pocket as a result.
