Car Windscreen Wrecked By Falling Chimney!
A man from Scotland is lucky to be uninjured after Storm Isha blew a chimney off a roof onto his vehicle while he was standing just yards away.
With the storm causing 100+mph winds, forecasters had warned there was a “danger to life” due to flying debris.
However, Ian Bremner, who lives in Airdrie, had gone outside after winds blew over his bins – a decision that could’ve left him seriously hurt had he been a short distance up his drive.
“I was picking up bins which had blown over in the garden when I heard a noise like an explosion and my car alarm went off at the same time,” Mr Bremner told STV News.
“I went down the drive to see what had happened and discovered the chimney from the roof above the car had crashed through the back windscreen of my car,” he said.
“I was only about ten feet away from it when it came down.”
The storm is the latest in a series of bad weather recently, with storm after storm battering all corners of the UK. Had Ian been sitting in his car or even standing at the side of it, the damage that could’ve been done by the chimney could’ve been catastrophic.
While ducking out of the way of chimneys isn't something you expect when you leave the house if you’re out and about during one of these storms, stay vigilant and keep your eyes peeled for anything hurtling towards you.
Windscreen Insurance
Had the chimney hit the vehicle while Ian was sitting in it, the breakdown cover might have been the last of his worries. But thankfully he wasn’t injured, so the attention turns to the damage incurred by the car!
This incident serves as a timely reminder that freak accidents can occur to your vehicle at any time. As well as the danger these incidents pose, you might also have to fork out for repairs – unless you’re covered, that is.
With windscreen cover, you’ll be protected against any unexpected damage. All you’ll need to do is pay a small excess and your glass will be repaired free of charge.
The cost of repairing a windscreen can differ depending on the severity of the damage. But for a complete windscreen replacement, you could be looking at a bill that runs into the hundreds or even thousands of pounds.
Many people mistakenly believe they get windscreen cover automatically with their fully comprehensive insurance policy, but providers have been quietly removing windscreen cover to cut costs. So check your policy and if you’re not covered, speak to us today!
